We've been away far too long. It's time to start this blog back up again. Our old pal Ka-Ciao has taken a trip to parts unknown, never to be seen again, so we need a new name for our blog. We were thinking "California Adventures","The Story by Pete and Lori", but not really loving either of those. We're looking for suggestions! Reply back if anything catchy comes to mind.
Today's adventure was a trip back up to Point Loma. It's just so breathtakingly beautiful up there, we could pack a lunch and just sit at the top overlooking San Diego, the bay, and the ocean all day.
On the way up to the top of the point, there is a side-trip to see the tidepools where all sorts of interesting sea life resides.
I love watching the reactions of the kids as they discover a hermit crab for the first time or explore earnestly to find the elusive octopus or starfish. The tide was high today, so the tidepools were mostly underwater, but there were a few small ones that had crabs, anemones, and fish.
On the ocean side, we saw a few small leopard sharks feeding on the seaweed near the cliffs. They were very difficult to photograph, so we're sorry to say we have nothing to show.
As all good things must come to an end, it was time to head back down to the city. We decided to take a quick side trip to Shelter Island, a long, skinny island in San Diego Bay filled mostly with hotels and boat launches.
.
Here we saw this guy swimming around the boats, hoping some fish would magically come his way. He was actually a sea lion, not a seal, a big fellow who clearly hasn't missed too many meals!
Our final treat for the day was a full sun dog. It only lasted about 30 minutes, but was quite spectacular and we were so happy to have been able to catch it.
We couldn't have asked for a better day, except maybe to have some of our family with us to share it. Until next time....
Peace

It's fascinating to see all the different boats going in and out of the bay, watching the shore birds diving for fish and soaring up and down the cliffs, and people-watch. We humans are a funny lot, especially kids.
